"First Ark to Alpha Centauri"

[A motion picture screenplay by A. Ahad]

Synopsis

Movie Title: "First Ark to Alpha Centauri"
Genre: Sci/fi, horror adventure, 120 minutes in length

The film is initially set on Earth in the late 23rd century, by which time our world has been ravaged by extreme climatic changes and deadly diseases to the extent where the human race faces a major turning point in a direction opposite to that of a technologically 'progressive' civilisation. Oil and gas reserves have been fully depleted and we face a major planet-wide energy, health and economic crisis. In this story, by the 23rd century we will have established temporary colony bases on the Moon and on Mars, which sadly get abandoned due to spreading of super-viruses like AIDS and economic upheavals. In a desperate effort to save humanity, an emergency decision is taken by world leaders to send a colony of clean (disease-free) people, plants and animals from our planet to safety on another habitable planet ('New Earth') identified by astronomers in our neighbouring solar system of Alpha Centauri, which is in actual fact, immensely distant from the Earth in its reach.

The colony and the starship concept depicted in the story are multi-generational, covering an interstellar voyage to Alpha Centauri that will span no less than 50,000 years! Three separate generations of people and their livelihoods are portrayed along the immensely long journey: the first generation that leaves Earth (20% of movie time), the 80th generation along the voyage (who are the main characters - taking up 70% of movie time), and the 2,000th generation who eventually reach New Earth, the destination planet at Alpha Centauri (10% of movie time).

Having left our solar system, as the ship travels further into deep space away from the bright neighbourhood of our Sun, future generations on board experience a series of horrific nightmares... where mysterious creatures from the cosmic darkness start to subtlely interact with the sleeping brain of starship occupants.

The starship concept is a colossal sized vessel dubbed the "Centauri Princess". It has an elaborate futuristic design that generates artificial gravity which supports thousands of acres of beautiful pine forests and exotic weather, a river that meanders its way across a virtual "sky"... and a small town community much like what we have on Earth today - all contained within the enclosure of a giant starship!

Adventures experienced by future generations en-route include battling nightmares onboard the ship, uncovering alien remains on an ice world and being greeted by sunshine coming from not one, but three suns at journey's end - 50,000 years since the first generation left Earth.

An epic tale of love, creepy horror and action adventure portrayed with hard scientific backing and envisioning possibly the most realistic way that humanity is likely to one day travel safely and comfortably to another solar system beyond our own...

What makes this movie concept so original?

Few sci-fi movies these days capture the full imagination of their audience by showing the true realism which a journey to the eternally distant stars would entail. Most of them portray starships whizzing through space at laughably impossible speeds, operating in far off worlds and galaxies which are infinitely removed from *our* reality. Mines is an epic first concept which will offer a stunning insight into the true immensities that would actually be involved when humankind is one day ready to embark upon a voyage to our *nearest* neighbouring solar system.
